For this project, I chose to recreate Joao Victor Azevedo's concept as seen below. I loved the edginess of this concept. The shoes for me were ideal to duplicate almost exactly in 3D.
Process
First off I grabbed a lot of reference for the project. I ended up using a lot of drag queen figures body references and makeup gurus for the clown face references.
At the beginning of this project I struggled a lot with the proportions of my character and the overall form of the body.
With some critiques and lots of time, the form of the body began to come together. I had a lot of reference to drag queens and how corsets shape their bodies.
When posing came around I constantly took screenshots of the silhouette of the character to make sure that it looked interesting and dynamic at every angle with the body and the pin prop.
When it came to texturing I did a mix of Substance Painter and Blender. The reason I chose to do a mix of the two software is because I felt like I had better control in Blender with subsurface scattering and knew, for timing purposes, it would be also be faster for me to light and render my turntables in Blender than in other softwares. As for Substance Painter, I love texturing in Substance and I knew that I would get the best textures through the software.
