Throughout Seasons 2 I fell in love with Ashely's character Kate Sharma but I dropped to the floor when I saw her in two orange dresses. The first was when she was helping to her sister for a wedding (seen on the left) and again at the end of the season when she gets engaged.
Seeing a woman with dark skin like mine wearing orange made me think about Kate as a character. She didn't look like a prisoner at all. She looked beautiful and free.
My association with orange needed to be reclaimed so this dress will help me reclaim the color orange for me.
Alright! Back to my regularly scheduled breakdowns! First things first, reference!
I decided to go with a charmeuse silk as a base and explored a few lace patterns to overlay or embed.

I created two types of lace to start and these assembled floral pieces to create a complex floral pattern. Once I finished the floral pattern, I created a charmeuse silk and applied it to the floral pattern. I created each piece separately so that if I decide the floral pattern is too complex I can easily deconstruct it and not destroy the work I've done to this point.

These are what the complex pattern and charmeuse silk look like applied to a mesh.

Once I applied the fabric to the mesh, the orange ended up being too saturated and didn't work as I had hoped. So I decided to adjust a few things.
1. Add a second layer of fabric to the dress model to use for lace
2. Change the orange to a light blue color

I went on to test these material adjustments with the most recent models of the dress and character. These are a few stills.
